Becky Vink - Central Okanagan

Becky

We are very pleased to welcome Becky Vink to our Officiant team.  She brings a wealth of experience as both a wedding officiant and a hospital chaplain.   She has a warm personality and quick wit that will keep your guests smiling and crying all at the same time.

Bonita's Winery in Summerland is a gorgeous location to get married and for Christopher and Tara, it was the perfect setting for their wedding on October 1st. The estate winery is located on the hillside bluff with sweeping panoramic views of Okanagan Lake.  As I've discovered with most weddings there is usually a surprise or two that adds romance but may seem like a bit of a curve ball on the day.  The first was the weather, which was offering up torrential rain shortly before the outdoor ceremony was planned to begin.  A switch to the covered tent available for just such an eventuality was no problem, and guests bearing glasses of Bonita's fine red and white, tippytoed down the long grassy slope through the vineyard to the lakeside, which seemed like about 1/2 a kilometer.  The second surprise was that the expected plan to drive the bridal party down this long path turned out not to be an option.  Undaunted and completely beautiful, the elegant bridesmaids and bride with father made their way down the longest aisle ever!  No spirits were dampened and the sun came out in glorious response just as Tara and Christopher began to read their personal written vows.  Thanks to the Maid of Honor, Tara's vows were protected with a little help from a Zip Lock plastic baggie to keep the paper dry, although I don't think there were too many dry eyes in the audience as we laughed and cried during this very meaningful ceremony which concluded with cheers and the clinking of wine glasses.  Cheers to you, in rain and sunshine, Tara and Christpher.  May God bless you with a wonderful future together.

Kassie and Tyler are nature lovers and what better place to have their wedding than the rustic setting of Silver Lake Forestry Camp near Peachland, BC.  In spite of wishing that I had remembered the bug repellant after bumping up the unpaved road to the camp, it was delightful to get away from the heat of the day and into the cool tranquility of the forest.  Guests were seated on wooden benches surrounded by shady trees with the lake just a short path away.  Kassie was beautiful in a dress lovingly made by her mother and in spite of the casual surroundings, the guys showed up very dapper in their wedding suits.  Kassie's baby brother added a little unexpected extra to the sounds of nature around us and happily exercised his own vocal cords as the ceremony unfolded.  This was all part of the special ambience.  A moment of significance happened as we waited for the bridal party to proceed down the path.  One of the guests remarked on a tree that was directly behind the platform where the ceremony took place.  When looking at the base of the trunk you could see that this tree had actually started out as 2 separate trees and the trunks had twisted gracefully together over time to become one whole tree.  We all thought this was rather profound and a special symbol for the wedding couple.  Best wishes for a long and happy life as you contiue to grow together, Tyler and Kassie!

It was fun to get to know Addy  and Alistair a little bit before they said their “I do’s”  on July 23 at another incredibly beautiful setting, See Ya Later Ranch in Okanagan Falls, BC.  The ranch which is actually a winery not only produces some great wines but it offers a gorgeous hilltop view of the Okanagan Valley and River.  The couple and wedding party looked fabulous in their nuptial attire and they made sure that everyone attending could have the best time possible as guests were bussed to and from the ranch. No worries about finding designated drivers!  Fun and laughter is a priority for this couple and, I believe, will be a binding force for their love and commitment as the years go by.

I’m glad to say that Morty (their doggy) was a part of their special day.  Oh yes, I met Morty when I did the first planning consult by Skype with Addy and Alistair.  I was trying to be very efficient and focused on the ceremony after calling Alistair the wrong name several times.  At one point I looked up from my notes and there was Morty sitting in Alistair’s spot next to Addy.  Well, we had a good laugh and I promised Addy and Alistair that I would not mess up any names on their big day.  All went off without a glitch unless you count the uproarious laughter from the guests when Addy was asked if she promised to “love, adore and encourage” Alistair.  Hmmm, not sure what that was about ‘cause he promised the same thing and there was only one or 2 giggles from the guests.

Needless to say, it was a magical day for everyone and I wish Addy and Alistair a full life of fun and joy as they journey together.

August 6th will be a day never to be forgotten by Brenna and Matt.  For their special ceremony, they chose the back yard of Brenna's parent's place in beautiful Vernon, BC.  The Okanagan lived up to it's reputation by producing a spectacularly sunny day.  Hot sun is great but Brenna and Matt can attest that combined with nerves, it can produce some anxiety just before it's time to say the vows  They were all set to go right on time but unfortunately some special friends managed to lose their directions.  The extra waiting time for these guests added just a bit more nervous reflection for the bride and groom .  At one point Matt asked 'has anyone ever passed out on you before?"  I assured him that no one ever has, and he was not about to be the first either.  Sure enough, once Brenna and Matt were up front, they were completely composed and they simply enjoyed a few meaningful tears at the most moving moments as they shared the vows that they had personally written for one another.  Father of the bride ended the ceremony with a special toast and voila, the nerves were no more.  Brenna and Matt obviously have a very special connection and their wedding was a symbol of their love and happiness.  I wish them a lifetime of  joy together.

On July 15, Kylie and Bastien tied the knot in the romantic setting of Linden Gardens in Kaledan, BC.  The guests were seated in a grassy area surrounded on all sides by incredible, colourful blooms and tall trees with the sunlight dappling through leaves dancing in the gentle breeze.  The bridal party blended in to the colourful surroundings in their vibrant orange and fushia.  Kylie and Bastien shared very moving personal vows with Bastien reciting his to Kylie in French.  Their little son and Ring Bearer, Nikolai, took it all in with great wonder, sporting an orange pacifier to match the wedding colors.  In spite of an earlier forecast for rain, the sun stayed constant throughout the ceremony. Kylie and Bastien, may your life together continue to be filled with sunshine and blessing.
